Honda S2000 Ultimate Edition (2009)

Honda S2000 Ultimate Edition (2009)

Since the introduction of the Honda S2000 in 1999 until the end of 2008, Honda has sold 110,673 units worldwide - 19,987 of those in Europe. As the name suggests, the Honda S2000 Ultimate Edition will be the last version before global production of the model ceases altogether at the end of June 2009. In recognition of its incredible power output, the Honda S2000's engine has won the International Engine of the Year category for 1.8 to 2.2 litre engines five times in its lifetime.

The 2-seater sports car may now be almost 10-years old, but its 240PS 2-litre is still one of the highest output per litre and highest revving engines ever made. Ultimate Editions will be marked out by their unique numbered plaques on the kickplates, denoting their position in the series. The white exterior will be matched with a red leather interior and complimented by unique red colouring for stitching on the gear lever gaiter. The exterior colour combination with the dark metal alloy wheels and unique black S2000 badging gives a fresh look to the timeless shape of the roadster body.

The shade of the paint evokes the colour first used on Honda's 1964 F1 car and many sporting models since. The Honda S2000 Ultimate Edition retains its highly acclaimed 2.0 litre 9000 rpm VTEC engine and combines it with a Grand Prix White body and graphite coloured alloy wheels. This limited edition has been produced to mark the end of production for the award winning sports car.  Honda has announced that the Honda S2000 Ultimate Edition goes on sale in Europe in March 2009.

It also gives a lower centre of gravity. This allows for greater cabin space, and the room for three rows of two seats. To give the Honda Skydeck Concept the practicality of a conventional MPV, many of the hybrid system components - including the high power battery - are housed in the car's centre tunnel (rather than behind the rear seats or under the floor, as with previous production hybrids).

This is still a design study, but is a great example of how Honda's IMA technology can be placed in a range of different cars for different needs.  The 2009 Tokyo Motor Show will mark the debut of the Honda Skydeck Concept, an innovative 6-seater hybrid MPV.

Honda Accord Crosstour (2010)

Honda Accord Crosstour (2010)

The flowing roofline narrows smoothly into the rear of the vehicle to create an aggressive-looking design, concealing a unique cargo area that can adapt to large objects that exceed the capacity of a normal sedan. Besides providing visual distinctiveness, these character lines communicate strength and structural depth. The fender lines appear broadened, like strongly muscled shoulders, with prominent character lines that sweep along nearly the entire body sides, subtly transitioning from an inverse line to an external line.

Well-defined wheel arches convey a strong stance and muscular tension. Starting at the front, the Honda Accord Crosstour's front fascia is enlarged and raised for dynamic toughness, and incorporates a wider and taller 6-point grille with large, horizontal slats surrounded by sharp and wide projector beam headlights. Like the Honda Accord Sedan, the Accord Crosstour's design is both sharp and strong, with a powerful-looking stance. The designers sought to build on the Accord's style that is already powerful, bold and sophisticated.

The exterior styling builds on the Accord's familiar character lines and adds a bolder front grille complemented by a durable lower-body appearance, wedge-shaped D-pillars and an aggressive rear stance.

Upgrades to the 2.4-liter 4-cylinder engine improve power output to 180 horsepower (hp), a 14 hp increase. Auto on/off headlights have been added to the Honda CR-V EX-L and the front seats have wider center armrests on all models. Bluetooth® HandsFreeLink® is now included on models equipped with the available Honda Satellite-Linked Navigation System™.

Interior improvements focus on new features and functionality. A 10-spoke alloy wheel design, standard on Honda CR-V EX and EX-L, replaces the previous 7-spoke alloy wheel design. The rear glass and contoured design of the rear combination lamps emphasise the vehicle's wide, confident stance. Robust rear wings reinforce the compact cabin for a bold, sculpted look. The exterior door handles have a spare, clean look that accentuates the slender lines of the body.

Mounted on slender arms that blend with the door moulding, they emphasise the elegant lines of the side windows, with the moulding embracing the mirror housing. The side mirrors add to the Honda FCX Clarity's free-flowing cabin. The sharp, dark chrome trim that runs from bumper to headlight draws the eyes toward the front wings, creating a powerful, dynamic look and a cool, clean, futuristic feel.  The elegant form of the Honda FCX Clarity sets it apart from everything else on the road and complements the rational, environmental reasons for driving a fuel cell eletric vehicle.

Because the newly-developed IMA system is more compact, it meant the nose of the car could be shorter, creating a snubbed, more aggressive look to the front end. We wanted to insert a sporty factor to make the car more appealing - and after all, sportiness is in Honda's DNA." While the 'greenness' of the car may have challenged the sporty direction of the overall design, in some areas it actually helped the dynamic cause. "If we just created an environmentally-friendly car it could have looked dull, or boring. "We wanted the car to be widely accepted," says Creative Chief Designer, Motoaki Minowa.

Above all, in line with the positioning of Honda Insight, the design had to appeal to a broad range of people. On the one hand, as a low emission hybrid car, it had to express environmental credentials - it had to look like a 'green' car - but on the other hand it had to appear dynamic and fun to drive; part of Honda's key design principles.  Although the Honda Insight design team started with a blank piece of paper - in that this was a brand new model with no history - they faced many challenges in creating the exterior appearance of the Honda Insight.

Honda New Small Concept (2010)

Honda New Small Concept (2010)

Honda will strive to provide a new small-sized vehicle that is beyond the expectations of customers in rapidly growing markets and offer it at an affordable price by leveraging Honda's global parts sourcing network. Honda is planning to introduce a new model based on the Honda New Small Concept in 2011, in India and also in Thailand. With the "Efficient Energetic Exterior" design, the dynamic design of the Honda New Small Concept with front forward fenders highlight the presence of the vehicle. For the Honda New Small Concept, a wide platform with a stable center of gravity was adopted to create a highly efficient compact size with seating for five people.

HSCI also announced plans to begin sales of a new model in 2011 based on this concept model. (HSCI), a leading manufacturer of premium cars in India, unveiled the world premiere of the Honda New Small Concept, a concept model for a new small-sized vehicle, at the Auto Expo 2010 in New Delhi.  Honda Siel Cars India Ltd.

The concept vehicle's projector beam headlights, LED taillights and form-fit fog lights further heighten the sophisticated quality of the design. Fender flares further accent the vehicle's securely planted and stylish persona. Aggressive body-to-wheel proportions reduce the perception of vertical height common to most minivan designs.

The lightning-bolt beltline dives toward the rear of the vehicle emphasizing the new Honda Odyssey's sporty appearance while enhancing outward visibility for third-row passengers. The next-generation Honda Odyssey promises to take these strengths to a higher level while adding more style and personality." The steeply raked front and rear roof pillars, unique side-glass profile, chamfered roof line, and tapered rear cabin shape combine to create a dynamic and distinctive appearance from any perspective. "Honda Odyssey then further delighted customers with its surprisingly engaging, fun-to-drive and dynamic nature. "The Honda Odyssey established its reputation by providing families with what they most want in a minivan - great functionality, an emphasis on safety and good fuel economy," said Vicki Poponi, assistant vice president of American Honda product planning. Forthcoming improvements to the production Honda Odyssey's interior are designed to further enhance the current model's accommodating space for people and cargo.

Compared to the 2009 Honda Odyssey, the Concept's slightly lower roofline (-1.0 inch) and wider stance (+1.4 inch) contribute to a sleeker, stronger and more dynamic presence with improved aerodynamics that help increase fuel economy. The Honda Odyssey Concept dramatically departs from conventional minivan styling with its low and wide stance, highlighted by a "lightning-bolt" beltline that further distinguishes the vehicle's profile.  The Honda Odyssey Concept, on display at the 2010 Chicago Auto Show, introduces a sleek and distinctive exterior styling direction for the next generation of the industry's best-selling minivan, set to debut this fall, American Honda Motor Co., Inc., announced today.

Building on the sedan's design character, the Honda Accord Accord unique muscular stance is enhanced with a bolder front grille design, new front bumper shape, enhanced brakelight appearance and a new wheel design for V6 models. The 2011 Honda Accord Sedan's exterior expresses a more upscale and powerful presence with a new style for the front grille, front bumper and rear deck lid, along with a new wheel design. The EPA fuel-economy ratings for Honda Accord 4-cylinder sedan models equipped with an automatic transmission improve by 2 miles per gallon (mpg) in the city and 3 mpg on the highway, for a city/highway rating of 23/34 mpg. "The Honda Accord is designed to deliver a consistently rewarding ownership experience in the areas that matter most to sedan and coupe drivers." Improvements to vehicle aerodynamics, engine friction and transmission gear ratios all contribute to fuel economy improvements.

"For 2011, the Honda Accord evolves again with sharpened styling inside and out, fuel economy gains and a broader application of popular features," said Erik Berkman, vice president of Corporate Planning and Logistics for American Honda Motor Co., Inc. Available as either a sedan or a coupe in 4-cylinder and V6 variations, the Honda Accord offers a unique balance of style, performance, efficiency and value specific to each individual model.  Set to go on sale in mid-August of 2010, the 2011 Honda Accord Sedan and Coupe receive significant updates including improved fuel economy, enhanced exterior and interior styling and the addition of a new leather-equipped Special Edition (SE) trim level.
